How to Turn Home Decor into Fall Decor

~Do a Switch-a-Roo~

Years ago, my church held a clothing drive. We had collected gently used clothing for several months. On the eve of the scheduled giveaway day, several members of the congregation gathered together and sorted the clothes…putting jeans in one area, dresses in another…etc.

While I was sorting through some jackets, I came across one that caught my eye…”Hey! I think this was my jacket.” I slipped it on and admired how pretty it was. Obviously…I liked it the first time too!

Isn’t that how we are when it comes to our decor. If we like it the first time, we don’t really want to get rid of it. When I have a vignette, bookcase or table decorated, it’s hard to take the look away…turning it into holiday decor.

But I’ve discovered that when it comes to Fall Decor, you really do not have to completely dismantle the look of your home to decorate for the holiday and season. You can make some simple changes that will keep with your home decor style, while welcoming in Fall. It’s easy to turn home decor into fall decor…

Earlier in the year, I moved this console table from my basement in to my living room. I chose to because it’s one of my favorite pieces in my home and I was tired of it being hidden in the basement, where I could never enjoy it.

After I moved it against this large wall, I created a layered vignette and loved it.

Layered Vignette

This look is exactly what I want for this space. I love the table. I love the variety of height and texture. I didn’t want to lose it when I began my Fall decorating. So I decided to switch out a few key pieces…

First, I knew I wanted to keep the height given by the berries and branches. I moved the lantern to the end of the table and removed the brown glass bottles. They were replaced with my new wooden tiered stand that I found at HomeGoods.

I filled the stand with pinecones, white pumpkins, bittersweet branches and magnolia leaves.

The bittersweet can also be found on my chalkboard, that I made from a pane of glass last year. The chalkboard replaced my Wood Swan Sign, with is layered with the gold frame.

The list of favorite things about fall is from a great printable I found at Simply Kierste. I actually wrote it free-hand, following her design, but Kierste has a free printable that you can grab for yourself.

I wanted to keep my milk glass cake stand, so I removed the golden arrowhead and added a grapevine pumpkin.

Below the table, I replaced the red wire baskets with my new seagrass basket with faux fur throw and I added the tallest brown glass bottle.

By replacing some select pieces of my regular home decor with some simple fall decor, I’m able to decorate for the season and keep my style…

Your are so smart to not think that you have to start completely over when changing decor from one season to the next. I love how you switched out just a few things to create a new look. Love that tiered stand and bet that it gets moved all over your home for decorating.

So lovely and inviting Leslie. I love how you used the basic concept and switched it to Fall. The console definitely is happier in your living room :)

Leslie, I saw your beautiful home on Rhoda’s blog. You have decorated the entire home so pretty. Enjoyed the tour very much.

I love the summer console with the swan tray. I am crazy for swans and peacocks in my décor. Did you make that or buy it somewhere if you don’t mind my asking?

    Take care

Beautiful job Leslie! I loved seeing the side by side comparison! That fall sign with the berries on it is so beautiful I want it for my house! You did a fantastic job transitioning to the fall season!

I think you really achieved your goal. In fact I like it even better than the first, which was lovely in itself. You really retained the look but with great additions. I particularly love the chalkboard, the berries and the twig pumpkin, but also love what you’ve got going on beneath the table. Nice job!!
