Thanksgiving Traditions

 Plans For The Big Day

Let’s talk turkey!…How do you spend your Thanksgiving? What are your family traditions?

At my house, we love a parade!

First and foremost, one of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions is watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! As a child, I would sit at the t.v. with my eyes glued to the set, looking for that first glimpse of who else?…SNOOPY!

He’s my favorite! My favorite character, my favorite stuffed animal and when I was a little girl, he was my friend.

So you can imagine my despair when I found out that on this 86th parade, Snoopy will not be flying high in the Manhattan sky!

He has been downgraded…to simply riding on a float….

But never fear…I will be watching!

We kick off the holiday season with a little laughter!

During and after the parade, food is prepared and tasted and snacked on…

In between the sampling, we watch Christmas movies. We usually start the movie fest with Christmas Vacation. Who can resist Clark W.Griswold and his need to over-do everything?!?!

It’s a great way to start the Christmas spirit in a funny way!

We love to eat!

Next comes the Thanksgiving Feast! We have the traditional fare…turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, cranberry salad, macaroni and cheese, corn, green beans, fried apples…just a simple Southern Thanksgiving! The kind that Grandma always made!

We spend time together!

After the bellies are full and the kitchen is cleaned, we play board games, watch more movies and football is thrown in the mix as well. Essentially, we try to enjoy each other’s company, being thankful for having each other.

Isn’t that what Thanksgiving is all about…being thankful for what you have been blessed with and who you have to share it with…

That is by far our family’s best Thanksgiving Tradition!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Your Thanksgiving sounds wonderful! Here in Canada, we celebrate a little earlier in October, but other than that it’s pretty much the same! We’re kicking off the Christmas season here this weekend by going out to the tree farm, putting up the lights outside, and watching Christmas specials on TV. 🙂 Have a great one!
