~Seahorses Made Perfect~
Last week, I showed you my Coastal Bathroom Makeover and promised to show you more detail on a few of the projects, including my Seahorse Towel Hooks.
If you remember, I found some seahorse wall decor at Ballard Designs that really caught my eye. They were the inspiration for the bathroom makeover. The only problem…they were $199 each!
So the hunt began for a more affordable version of the seahorses. While walking through HomeGoods, I found three of these…
The colors are great, although not what I wanted for this bathroom. But for $24.99 each…a little paint can fix that problem!
I gathered some of my DecoArt craft paint in Black, White Wash and Sand. If you notice, there is a very dark navy stripe already on the seahorse. I decided to leave it. It’s so dark that it blends right in with the black. To cover the lightest green, I used the white wash. The blue was covered with black and I used the sand on the darker green.
I used a small craft brush and tried to maintain the “worn” look of each section.
Next, I added a double robe hook to each seahorse. I found these Threshold double hooks at Target.
I love how they turned out! I got the look I wanted at a fraction of the cost! They’re decorative and functional!
To attach them at the wall, I used the existing D ring that was already on each seahorse. Once they were on the wall and placed correctly, I used finishing nails at the top and bottom to secure the entire seashore to the wall. That way, when someone places or removes a towel from the hook, the seashore will not move or fall off. Once the finishing nails were in, I used wood filler to fill the holes and then touched the spots up with paint. Perfect!
I love what a little paint can do!
