Earlier this week, I shared a little of our west coast road trip, specifically the Grand Canyon. Today, I want to share some highlights from Day 2 of our trip. It all started on Route 66, as we headed toward the Hoover Dam.
We began the day by having breakfast at the Pine Country Restaurant, which we found on Trip Advisor. It had a high rating and was considered a favorite by many. We found out why…it was a delicious breakfast and they had amazing pies. Yes…we ordered some pie for breakfast too. (For us, anything goes on vaca!)
After breakfast, we drove down Route 66 to the Hoover Dam. There was a lot of “nothing” along the way, but when we passed through some of the small towns, we found some interesting sights, including the “cast of Cars.”
We also stopped at the Hackberry General Store, where we picked up some bottled Cokes and Root Beer. Perfect for any road trip.
Once we arrived at Hoover Dam, the first thought that came to mind was how incredibly HOT it was! 108 Degrees and climbing…
The Dam itself is very impressive and it’s really cool to stand on one end and realize you’re in Arizona and on the other end you’re in Nevada. The Memorial Bridge is massive and makes for an amazing view from the Dam.
We didn’t go on the Bridge, because to be honest…it was too hot to spend too much time standing in the sun. We also did not take a Dam Tour, although now I wish we had taken a tour to see the inside of the Dam and how it works. We simply chose to go on the Dam, take some pictures and then we hit the road again, heading toward Vegas.
