Cherished Memories on a Tree
Last year, I threw out an idea to my kids…
“What if this year, we decorate the Christmas tree without our regular ornaments?”
I thought the roof would blow off the house!
No way, no how!
Then it dawned on me…those are our memories on that tree…
Every year when I drag out the box of ornaments, the kids will help me put them on the tree. Granted, they don’t last long, but they do start looking through the box, pulling out their baby’s first Christmas…
their favorite one from when they were little…
the ones they played with like they were toys…
the ones that remind them of their favorite Twilight books…
their favorite hobby…
or one of their favorite characters from childhood…
…looking at them and reminiscing.
Each ornament represents a special time and once a year, we get to re-live that moment, if only for a short while.
Our tree celebrates the spirit of Christmas…
It holds our cherished memories upon its branches allowing us to celebrate our lives spent together as a family…
Happy Holidays!

Hi Leslie! I had the same thoughts when I put up our tree. I often think of setting different tree themes and buying all new ornaments but then I pull out the boxes and each ornament holds a special memory that I don’t want to part with.
Nice post.
Thanks Jillian! As a decorator, I want to have a beautifully coordinated tree that fits so well with my home decor, but as a mom I know it’s more important to make it special for my family. Maybe I should just get another tree and then I could satisfy both sides! Have a great weekend!
I absolutely love it! I enjoyed putting the ornaments on the other day and remembering the memories attached to it! So fun and special!
They really are! Wait till your little ones get older and the memories become even more precious!
I love it, Leslie! Those memories are precious!
Ah, Thanks Laurie! There are so many and it is such a blessing that I have them! Have a great weekend!

Thank you Doreen! You are absolutely right! I know that some of my fondest memories are of going to my grandmother’s and looking at all of “my” ornaments! Have a great day!
