Leaves, Mums & More
This Saturday, my church is hosting a Ladies Inspirational Day and I have been working on the Fall flower arrangements for the tables. Since I was already at work, I thought I’d share my steps for arranging flowers.
Keep in mind, I am not a florist and I’ve never taken a class, so I do not claim to know what I’m doing! LOL! I’ll just share what I do in the process.
Choosing the Flowers
Saturday’s Ladies Day is an informal, meet and eat. We will be having 8 round tables, so we need to have centerpieces that allow eye contact and conversation. Therefore, I chose smaller, more compact arrangements.
We wanted something feminine and elegant in Fall colors. I found these great bunches of leaves and mums at The Dollar Tree.
For $1.00 per bunch, I think they look great!
I found these great glass bowls at Hobby Lobby. If you go at the right time, you can get them for 50% off. Just watch their sales. Love Hobby Lobby!!
Putting Them Together
I cut floral foam to fit the bowl and hot glued it to the bottom of the bowl. Then I inserted moss to camouflage the foam.
I separate and cut my floral bunches. I like to insert individual stems. I wanted to create a rounded arrangement, so I began by inserting my center flower to determine the height. I also began adding some greenery around the edges, with the intent to begin covering the top of the foam.
I continued adding flowers, balancing between all sides.
Using trial and error, I continue to add flowers till I achieve the look and balance that I like.
When you have your flowers as you want them, you can add more moss to cover the foam. You don’t want “holes” in the arrangement or the floral foam to show. You can also add more greenery to make the arrangement fuller.
The Finished Project
Here is the finished arrangement, sitting on my coffee table and in my foyer.
I think these arrangements will be perfect on the tables at our Ladies Inspirational Day. The colors are great and the flowers are compact enough that they will allow everyone to see over them in order to have excellent conversation.
I’ll take some pictures on Saturday to show you how they looked!
