Everyone has something in their home decor that they are drawn to…what I mean is, something that is their “thing.” For example, I love antique picture frames. I love them large. I love them small. I love them all!
My late grandmother was an antique dealer. She shared her love of antiques with me and taught me to appreciate them. I have several antique pieces, but none that I love more than my frames.
The vast majority of my antique frames hold family portraits. Each of my children have an 11×14 baby picture in an antique frame. I tend to use them for pictures that hold significant memories for us, like for example my son’s senior picture. Their wedding pictures will be in them one day…
Here are two examples of them in my home. I have them on the wall going up my stairs and on the wall in my master bedroom.
They have such character. Each one is different, yet they work so well together. I love the variety of gold hues.
Some of them are not in perfect shape, but I don’t care. They have a history. I don’t refinish them because I like the imperfections. Some have been touched up with a little gold paint, but most have been untouched.
I also would like to show you two pictures, in antique frames, that my grandmother gave me, for the birth of two of my sons. I love them! They mean so much to me. Each picture is of a mother and child.
The price of antique frames varies, depending not only on it’s age but it’s condition as well. I once bought one for $5 at a flea market. It needed a little TLC. I put some reinforcement into the frame and painted it with gold spray paint. There are so many choices of spray paints now, that you could definitely give a frame your own special touch.
I hope this gives you a sense of what beauty these frames can add to your home. Not only that, but they are wonderful family heirlooms that can be passed on through your family.
I have several, but just one would be great. Choose what works for you.
What about you? What do you “love” in your home decor? What are you drawn to? I’d love to hear from you.
